About

Recapping the Oldies is a new site dedicated to recapping popular television series that ran long before recaps were a gleam in the Internet’s eye. Many older programs remain very popular, thanks to the numerous TV viewing options currently available.

Why recap older television shows?

We all like to watch old TV shows, and we all have our favorite reruns that we’ll settle on while channel surfing. What can be more comforting than landing on an old episode of Happy Days, Andy Griffith, or Little House on the Prairie? Whether it’s a one-off watch or regular TV viewing, there are older television series for all viewing preferences.

For Cord Cutters

Cable viewers have always had numerous content options when it comes to watching TV. However, there has never been a better time to cut the cord. With numerous apps available, many of them free, finding something to watch is never a problem.

Television reruns have always been a staple of free TV because they incur no production costs and are easy to monetize. Many smart TVs and platforms, such as Roku, even have “live” TV channels that run older television programs all day.

Reruns are still very popular

Whether it’s older viewers sticking with their tried and true favorites or younger viewers discovering a classic, many reruns still have a decent following.

Nostalgia

Older programs are like old friends. They bring us back in time and remind us of our younger days. They remind us of black and white TVs and rabbit ear antennas. We can recall sitting on the couch and floor as a family, laughing along with a sitcom’s canned laugh track or being drawn into an old Western or cop show. When we watch old TV shows, we remember how and where we watched it the first time.

The Internet wasn’t around when these older shows first hit the airwaves

Many of the older TV shows deserve their Internet moment, and we are here to help make that happen!

Sometimes TV shows aren’t how we remember them

Have you ever rewatched a favorite TV show from when you were young, and it doesn’t hold up the same way it did when you originally watched? Or maybe it was even better the second time around.

And, wow! Look at all of those stars that appeared as guests on those shows back in the day!

Pop some popcorn, pull up a beanbag chair, and send your little brother to adjust the antenna. We’re off to recap the oldies!
